It grows to harvestable size in three to five years (compared to decades for most trees), requires no pesticides, needs minimal water, and regenerates from its root system after cutting — the same plant can be harvested repeatedly without replanting.
But sustainability alone doesn't make something suitable for wound care. The reason bamboo works for bandages is what happens to the fibre when it's processed:
- Bamboo fibre is naturally soft — noticeably softer than standard cotton gauze
- It has inherent antimicrobial properties, maintained through ethical processing

The culprits are usually the adhesive — which frequently contains latex and acrylate compounds — or the dyes and bleaching agents used in the gauze. For people with sensitive skin, a bandage can sometimes cause more irritation than the wound itself.
Our bamboo bandages are latex-free, free from harsh dyes, and free from synthetic bleaching agents. The adhesive is selected specifically for hypoallergenic properties — it holds securely without provoking the skin underneath.

Our bamboo bandages use a medical-grade, skin-friendly adhesive that grips securely but removes cleanly.
